Camino de Santiago Packing List
The best packing advice on the Camino is subtraction. Pick your season and where you plan to sleep, and we generate a checklist of the essentials — tick items off as you pack, then print it.
The weight rule
The old pilgrim guideline is to carry no more than about 10% of your body weight. Every item on this list earns its place; almost everything else can be bought along the way in Spain if you turn out to need it.
What changes by season and sleeping style
Albergue dorms need sleep kit — a liner in summer, a light sleeping bag in winter, earplugs always. Hotel walkers can skip all of it. Winter swaps the sun hat for insulation and waterproofs.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a sleeping bag on the Camino?
In albergues from late spring to early autumn, a liner is usually enough — blankets exist but are not guaranteed. In winter, carry a lightweight sleeping bag. In hotels or private rooms, neither.
What is a credencial and where do I get one?
The credencial is the pilgrim passport you stamp along the way; it proves your walk for the Compostela. Pilgrim associations, cathedrals, and most starting-point albergues issue them for a couple of euros.
