What drives the cost

Accommodation and food are almost the whole budget. Municipal albergues run roughly €8–15 a night; private albergues and simple hostals €15–25; hotels far more. A pilgrim menu dinner with groceries for the day lands around €15–25, while eating in restaurants can triple that.

These are 2026 estimates and prices vary by region and season — the coastal cities of the Norte cost more than the meseta villages of the Francés. Treat the range as planning guidance, not a quote.

What a full Camino Francés costs end to end

A cost per day only means something once you multiply it out. Walking the 33 classic stages of the Camino Francés at municipal-albergue and pilgrim-menu rates comes to roughly €760 to €1,320 for the walk itself. Trade up to private albergues and restaurant dinners and the same 33 days land nearer €1,800 to €2,800.

On top of that sit the one-offs the calculator can add as their own lines: a gear buffer of €100 to €300 if you are starting from nothing, and €30 to €80 of transport to reach your starting town. Flights home, travel insurance, and anything you post ahead are yours to add on top.

Where the estimate can be wrong

Two things move the number more than anything else. Season: albergue beds in Galicia in August are scarcer and dearer than the same beds in March, and a full municipal albergue means paying private rates whether you budgeted for them or not. Region: the coastal Norte runs noticeably higher per day than the meseta villages of the Francés for exactly the same style of walking.

The estimate also assumes you are walking. A rest day is a night and a day of food with no progress toward Santiago, so it is worth putting into the total before you leave rather than discovering it in week three.
